Paper manufacturing is a continuous, process-intensive operation where compressed air supports a range of activities, from pulp preparation and material handling to paper forming, coating, finishing and plant automation. With production systems operating continuously, reliable compressed air quality is essential for dependable equipment performance and uninterrupted operations.
Compressed air is used for pneumatic machinery, valve and actuator operation, material handling, coating processes, air knives and other plant applications. These applications can have different requirements for air quality and dryness, making appropriate compressed air treatment an important part of the overall system.
Paper manufacturing involves significant amounts of water and operates in environments where heat, fibres, chemicals and continuous mechanical activity are present. During compression, moisture from ambient air is concentrated and can enter the compressed air network if it is not adequately treated.
As compressed air travels through the distribution system, moisture can accumulate and contribute to corrosion, malfunction of pneumatic components and increased maintenance requirements. For applications requiring controlled air conditions, maintaining the required level of dryness is therefore important for reliable operation.
Paper mills require compressed air treatment that can:
Different applications within a paper mill can require different levels of compressed air dryness. Delair provides both refrigeration and desiccant drying technologies to address these requirements.
Refrigeration Dryers are suited to general industrial applications where effective moisture removal and a controlled pressure dew point are required. Delair refrigeration dryers operate by cooling compressed air to near the freezing point, causing water vapour to condense so it can be separated and drained. Delair’s refrigeration dryers provide a best pressure dew point of +3°C to +4°C followed by Quality standard of ISO 8573-1:2010 Class 3 under specified conditions.
For paper manufacturing facilities, they can be used for general plant and production applications such as pneumatic machinery, material handling, plant utilities, controls and other standard compressed air requirements.
Desiccant Dryers are used when applications require a much higher level of dryness than refrigeration drying can provide. Delair’s DD/DC Series uses adsorption technology to remove water vapour from compressed air and can achieve Atmospheric Dew Point (ADP) of (-) 40°C to (-) 60°C, with capability up to -70°C followed by Quality standard of ISO 8573-1:2010 Class 1.
They are suited to applications where stringent moisture control is required or where operating conditions demand very dry compressed air.
The appropriate technology depends on the required level of dryness, operating conditions, air demand and sensitivity of the application to moisture. Delair’s range enables paper manufacturers to select the drying technology according to the specific requirement.
Drying is one part of maintaining compressed air quality. Delair also provides Micro Air Filtration Systems, Moisture Separators, Air Receivers, After Coolers and Auto Drain Valves to support the complete compressed air treatment Solutions.
Together, these solutions can help manage moisture and other contaminants, protect downstream equipment and maintain the required compressed air quality throughout the system.
Delair’s compressed air treatment solutions help paper manufacturers maintain reliable air quality across demanding production environments.
With the right compressed air treatment, paper manufacturers can protect downstream equipment, support reliable pneumatic operation and meet the specific moisture-control requirements of their applications.
From general plant air to applications requiring very dry compressed air, Delair provides compressed air treatment solutions designed around the specific requirements of paper manufacturing.
