Delair provides solution for Ash Handling System

Delair has been able to save production and energy cost for many Power plants by installing its wide range of Refrigeration & Adsorption based Compressed Air Dryers and Customized / Engineered Adsorption based compressed air dryers.Fly ash is conveyed by air under pressure. This system offers advantages of conveying material from one point to another or to a number of discharge points. The system is composed of a blower or a fan, rotary lock, cyclone separator, divertor, piping and fittings bag filter. Pressure conveying system needs dry compressed air to transport dry fly ash from the surge hopper to the silo for ash storage. Here, the dry ash is mixed with the compressed air and then the mixture is conveyed through the pipeline which runs upto the storage silo where the ash is discharged and the air is released into the atmosphere after filtration. Fly ash being hygroscopic tends to absorb moisture from surrounding air. If moisture is present in the compressed air stream, the ash gets moistened which leads to forming of lumps which sticks to the sides of the pipeline leading blockage and corrosion of pipelines.

Moisture in compressed air stream also leads to

  • Corrosion in pipes, ash intake valves, air intake valves and other components.
  • Increased downtime and maintenance costs of pneumatic controls.
  • Contamination and damage at points where the compressed air comes directly in contact with sensitive materials.
  • Rust and scale formation in pipelines, silos.
  • Sluggish and inconsistent operation of air valves.
  • Malfunctioning of pneumatic shutters

The Delair solution

There can be tremendous saving of energy costs, if the compressed air is dried upto 2°C to 5°C PDP (Pressure Dew Point) i.e corresponding to (-)20°C ADP (Atmospheric dew point) instead of (-) 20°C PDP corresponding to (-)40°C ADP respectively. For most
cost effective removal of moisture from the compressed air stream Delair suggests installation of Refrigeration Type Dryers since in Heatless Type Dryers air is wasted for purges process of regeneration of the towers.

A prescription to Pharma Industry

Delair successfully commissioned 4 Heatless Dryer – 1274 cmh, 934 cmh, 509 cmh and 255 cmh at Intas, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, manufacturing plant for pneumatic processes.

PROBLEM

Majority of the pharmaceutical products are highly hygroscopic in nature and tend to suffer physical, enzymatic, microbiological and biochemical deterioration after coming in contact with moisture laden compressed air. In Intas Pharmaceutical, due to moisture in spraying/coating process there were problems like change in color of tablets, blisters on tablets and breakage of tablets. There was wastage of tablets due to its chemical reactions. Also, due to moisture there were rust and corrosion in compressed air pipe lines

After thoroughly analyzing the problem, Delair engineers decided to install heatless Dryer – 1274 cmh, 934 cmh, 509 cmh and 255 cmh at their plant which removed moisture from compressed air. Dry Air recipe for Food Industry

Delair successfully installed Refrigeration Dryer of 680 cmh at Hindustan Coca Cola, Faridabad, Haryana manufacturing plant for PET bottle blowing process.

PROBLEM

Compressed air is used to blow the bottles/containers to the desired shape and size. A major problem in compressed air systems is the presence of water, dust particles, oil (oils particles are introduced by lubricated air compressors) and solid contaminants which can adversely affect air quality. Moisture in compressed air lead to following problems:

  • Loss of clarity i.e. clouding of PET bottles
  • Loss of strength of PET bottles
  • Internal bubbles or pockmarks in he bottles

SOLUTION

Delair Airgineers analyzed the problem and installed High Pressure Refrigeration Dryer – FDI 400 P which is specially designed for PET Bottle manufacturing process. It operates at high pressure upto 40 bar on the method of cooling the air to near freezing point to remove the moisture and reheating it to approximately 10°C below the incoming compressed air temperature at nominal conditions. This helped them in blowing PET bottle with Dry high pressure compressed air.
